Protecting Yourself Against The Flu!

As we all know, Flu season is well underway and with the increase in calls we have seen those complaining of Flu like symptoms, we thought it was a good idea to bring you some tried and true tips to protecting yourself when it comes to the Flu.

It is to your benefit to understand that the Flu is a virus and treatment can be difficult due to this very fact.  Antibiotics are usually not effective because they are intended to treat bacterial infections and not viral.  Your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic however, because it can also be difficult to differentiate the Flu from a bad case of the common cold.

The Centers For Disease Control estimate that over 200,00o people are hospitalized each year because of the Flu and of those 20,000 are children under five years old.  In addition, it is also estimated that 36,000 actually die as a result of the Flu.
Everyone is at risk of contracting the Flu virus but those who are at an especially high risk are the very young and the very old.

With all this being said, there is some good news.  With awareness and active prevention, you can protect yourself and your family from becoming sick this season.  The Centers For Disease Control has compiled a short but extremely knowledgeable guide with tips that can help save you a lot of misery.

For your convenience, we have provided a link to the Center For Disease Control website which will take you directly to their Flu prevention page.  There, you can find information on Flu prevention and also the signs and symptoms to be on the lookout for in the event you become suddenly ill with what could potentially be the Flu virus.
